4.28.08 15 Houston Area Artists Awarded more than $90,000 in Grants Funding. The Houston Arts Alliance (HAA) has awarded 15 Individual Artist Grant Fellowships totaling over $90,000. The 15 selected Houston artists work in a variety of disciplines including, music, literature and visual arts. These artists were selected from a field of 56 applicants by a peer review panel. 4.17.08 Houston Arts Alliance announced today the appointment of artist and experienced public art administrator Helen Lessick as the organization’s director of Civic Art & Design. Lessick will work with CEO Jonathon Glus and HAA Civic Art Committee to articulate a vision for the agency's Civic Art & Design Program and define short- and long-term goals to advance the program. Working closely with staff at the City of Houston, she will identify and prioritize civic art projects, administer all Civic Art & Design contracts, and provide project oversight. 3.10.08 Houston Arts Alliance Taps New Communications Director Houston Arts Alliance recently announced the addition of Margaret Miller as Communications Director, a new position that capitalizes on her skills as a writer and editor. Projects under her supervision will include publicizing HAA activities, overseeing the production of the HAA annual report, and coordinating special events.

Houston Arts Alliance (HAA) invites the public to awaken their senses at space125gallery (3201 Allen Parkway) with its exhibition Harvest Moon Rising featuring former HAA grantees Allison Hunter and Donna Durbin. HAA will host an opening reception Thursday, October 25, 2007, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for board members, patrons, the art community and participating artists. The exhibit remains on view through December 6, 2007. 10.01.07 Houston Arts Alliance (HAA) invites the public for an evening of theatrics and narratives and a chance to visit with the authors at its Literary Salon. HAA will begin the salon with an evening reception at 6:30 p.m. for a chance to meet the authors and discuss their prose personally, followed by the readings, which will start at 7 p.m. The readings will include poetry and short stories, coupled with a dramatic reading and insight into the playwriting process. The event is free and open to all. 07.16.07 HAA Taps Artist Bert Long for Looscan Mural With the new Looscan Neighborhood Library preparing to reopen its doors, internationally acclaimed artist, Bert L. Long, Jr., has begun work on a mural for the new facility. Long's mural, which was selected by a panel representing the library and the neighborhood, as well as arts professionals, will be featured in the building that will replace the original branch constructed in 1956. 07.05.07 HAA Civic Art Call for Artists Houston Arts Alliance announced today that it is embarking on seven new civic arts projects and issuing an open call for artist applicants.
