GuideStar is a national database with information about the programs and finances of more than 1 million IRS-recognized charitable organizations. GuideStar was established in 1994, at a time where there was no central place to obtain data on charities or verify their legitimacy. Through Guidestar, donors can research their charitable giving, learn details about the financial and administrative functions of a nonprofit organization, and use this information to identify the best organization for their charitable investment.
