This phase of METRO Light Rail will serve the Main Street corridor, from the north end of downtown, through Midtown, Hermann Park, The Museum District, and the Texas Medical Center to the Reliant Astrodome. The artists involved on the project participated as part of the station design teams, working to find artistic design solutions that reflect the locations of individual stations, and the diversity of people, activities, history and future of the communities along the line. The Downtown/Midtown Transit Streets project is rebuilding 20 transit streets in Downtown and Midtown, widening sidewalks, and adding bus shelters, information kiosks, enhanced lighting and improved storm drainage. Artists involved in the project have designed elements including a new bus shelter, information kiosks, patterned sidewalk inlays, and granite pavers etched with excerpts from poems by Texas authors, in addition to other functional enhancements.
