Site Description:

Texas Avenue, the east-west axis of the project, is home to various important cultural landmarks in Houston, including the Wortham Center, home to the Houston Grand Opera, Houston Ballet, and DaCamera, the Alley Theater- Houston's Tony-Award winning theater, as well as Minute Maid Park, home to the Houston Astros. Heading south from Minute Maid Park, Avenidas de las Americas is flanked by the 1,800,000 square foot George R. Brown Convention Center ("the GRB"). Houston Mayor Bill White recently announced the development of a 13-acre park urban park directly across from the GRB. The park site currently contains surface parking lots and privately owned green space with landscaping and trees. City acquisition of the property will ensure that it is preserved for a park rather than being sold for other development. A block south of the GRB is the Toyota Center, home of the Houston Rockets and soon-to-be-renovated Root Square sits directly across the street from it.
