Opportunity

The Houston Parks Board, in partnership with the Cultural Arts Council, is pleased to announce a design competition for the bench design.  The competition is open to Houston-area artist-fabricator teams to design a new bench that is functional as a park bench, visually appealing, and durable in the face of Houston’s sometimes severe weather and potential vandalism.  The selected team will produce the first set of 25 benches.

Up to 3 artist-finalists will be selected based on their qualifications as submitted.  Each artist-finalist will receive a $1,500 honorarium and the selected artist will receive an additional $5,500 to finalize the design and orchestrate fabrication.  $15,000 will be available to produce the first batch of 25 benches.
